About the course

The National Speed Awareness Course is an engaging, interesting and enjoyable intervention that leads to a sustained change in how they drive. It is an educational and rehabilitative option for those who have committed a speeding offence, and who have been diverted from court by the police through the issuing of a Conditional Fixed Penalty Notice (CFPN).

The course does not embarrass individuals, judge them, or hold them to account for the offence committed. Nor will the trainer presenting the course ask anyone in the group to talk about their offence. People who successfully complete the course (and any other conditions set by the police) will not be prosecuted for the original offence.

Course duration is 3 hours. Prices may vary depending on the referring police force.

Attending the course

The course is designed to take you on a journey that:

  • Shows you how to identify speed limits
  • Helps you recognise why it is not safe to speed
  • Highlights the potential consequences to you and others if you speed and were to crash
  • Explains how you can recognise and resist pressure to speed from yourself and others
  • Shows you that without concentrating it is easy not to notice hazards
  • Helps you build an action plan as to how you are going to drive differently in the future so that you avoid speeding

This overall aim is to motivate you to comply with speed limits.
